Working with a local Developer in the city of Detroit, we carefully assembled a team of creative individuals and organizations who bring together their own unique perspectives and expertise to deliver a transformative and engaging project centered around ideas of community building and responsible design. To that end, the site is planned around a mews – a new public space typology that bisects the site along an east-west axis and provides flexible, programmable space accessible to the public 24 hours a day. We proposed that this amenity was in exchange for removal of the existing alleys on the site. The mews draws characteristics and three topographically unique social space lined with residential amenities, retail, and restaurant opportunities and gathering spaces, while simultaneously acting as a collector for sustainable storm water management.
