Veterans Los Angeles (while employed at SmithGroup Inc. San Francisco, 2002-2003)

The building is one mile long with two “common areas” for activities, visiting family members, and an eating area.
Within the 50,000 sq ft spaces nature, identity, and light are the most important elements. Between each space lies more
then the common space, but a cafeteria that allows each veteran to gather with other friends. The south wall contains
indoor trees and rushing water. The west wall is a 15 foot high glazing wall that allows many of the veterans to eat
outside underneath the aluminum canopy. The canopy pierces the glazing wall by allowing the weaving to occur
at the ceiling.
